PCX

Specialty Automated Coating Systems

The PCX Series coating system is a versatile, high-throughput coating platform for applying and curing medical device coatings. It integrates both dip-coating and ultraviolet-curing processes in one compact unit, making it ideal for coating catheters, guide wires, introducers and similar devices. Pre-engineered modules allow you to choose predesigned feature packages and automation levels best suited for your application without the long lead times and high costs associated with custom designed equipment.

PCX Dual Processing Chambers

One Operator, Two Coaters

With dual processing chambers left and right, a dipping module and a curing module shuttle side to side, alternately serving each chamber. As one 12-part cassette is dipped in one chamber, a second cassette of parts is simultaneously cured in the other. The modules then shift positions to continue the processing. This concurrent processing allows for nearly continuous capability with just a single operator.

Precision Dip Coating

The PCX dip module contains a servo-controlled vertical motion column that precisely lowers and extracts a cassette of parts into and out of a set of solution tubes. These individual tubes are removable and disposable to keep coating solution fresh. Precise immersion speed, distance and extraction speed can be programmed for your specific device and coating chemistry. An optional alignment comb automatically aligns parts with the solution tubes and can serve as an auto-feeder to assist dipping.

UV Curing

Uniform UV Curing

The UV cure module produces a flood of UV light to process today’s coating chemistries. Stacked pairs of UV sources allow you to tailor the cure zone to satisfy your device’s coated length, and additional light sources can be added should your needs change. A sliding shutter precisely controls the amount of UV exposure, and parts are rotated to provide uniform curing to all surfaces. Light intensity can be continually monitored via a UV sensing option that signals if levels drop below a preset level.

CoatingWorks Software

The versatile, intuitive Harland CoatingWorks software makes programming coating sequences fast and easy. PCX coater actions are selected from a menu and added to the position chosen in the sequence. Messages can also be added to remind the operator of actions to be taken throughout the coating process. Multiple, password-protected protocols can be created, modified and saved by authorized personnel. After programming, a PLC controller takes over control of actual coater operations.
