MaterialsMaterials are specialty coating solutions formulated and optimized to effectively modify the surface of your healthcare products. Our materials include Lubricent® UV cured Hydrophilic Coatings, Bacticent® Antimicrobial Coatings and Tylicent® Primer Coatings.
Minimally invasive surgery enabled by medical devices with surface enhancements has emerged as the gold-standard for efficient, low-risk surgical procedures. It is a cost effective and patient-friendly method of performing an operation. Minimally invasive techniques satisfy patients’ desires for a swift recovery and shorten the hospitalization period. The pressures to reduce healthcare costs and improve outcomes are driving minimally invasive medical devices to replace more and more traditional surgical procedures.
Lubricent UV Hydrophilic Coating
Harland’s Lubricent UV Hydrophilic coating enables catheters and guidewires to navigate through the most difficult anatomies consists of a blend of a hydrogel-forming polymer combined with a proprietary photo-reactive compound dissolved in isopropyl alcohol.
- Nylon (Polyamide)
- PEBA (Polyether block amide)
- Silicone elastomers*
- Stainless steel*
Bacticent antimicrobial coatings can deliver broad-spectrum compounds providing a powerful and differentiating feature in the fight against healthcare-associated infections.
The patient impact from HAIs can be significant, ranging from discomfort to death. Additionally, infections can result in surgical revisions, prolonged hospital stays, and serious complications requiring future hospitalization and a shorter lifespan. The healthcare system also suffers because infection treatment consumes valuable resources and creates additional expenses, which are often not reimbursed.
Bacticent Antimicrobial Coating
Not all device substrate materials can be coated directly with a lubricious or antimicrobial coating. For these applications Harland provides a variety of Primer Solutions which each act as a “tie layer” between these substrates and the functional top coats. They provide a uniform, compatible surface to which any of the Harland coatings can be applied.
Tylicent Primer Solution
Dedicated formulations for the following substrate materials:
- Specialty Polymers
- Silicone elastomers
- Stainless steel
